Simcoe Computer Repair Versus GeekSquad

“Why I Do Computer Repairs Differently”

An honest conversation with Dan from Simcoe Computer Repair

Interviewer: I’ve been reading a ton of online reviews lately, and honestly… computer repair services like Geek Squad don’t have the best reputation. Long waits, hidden costs, technicians that don’t explain what they’re doing. You’ve probably heard it all before. Why should people trust that Simcoe Computer Repair any different?

Dan: Oh, I’ve read those too. And I get it — I hear the horror stories when people show up at my door. They’re not mad at me; they’re mad because they’ve already been through three weeks of silence after dropping off their computer at some big chain store. Or they were quoted one price, then billed another.
At Simcoe Computer Repair, my entire setup was built around fixing those exact complaints. I work local, not through a depot. Everything happens right here, and I aim to have it back in your hands within seventy-two hours. Often faster.

Interviewer: So you’re saying you can fix what big chains can’t? Or is it more about how you handle the process?

Dan: Mostly the process. The big guys have to ship everything to a central facility because the staff on the ground don’t actually know what they’re doing for anything beyond the basics… That’s where the delays come in. I fix the computer here in my office in Simcoe, I test it here, and I hand it back myself. You’re not a ticket number in a warehouse queue. You’re a person standing in front of me who needs their computer to work again. That’s the difference. Though your name will no doubt be on a vibrantly coloured Post-it note at my door! haha!

Interviewer: One complaint that really stands out about ‘The Other Guys” online is poor communication. People say they never get updates or even understand what’s being done. How do you tackle that?

Dan: Straight talk. When you drop off your laptop or desktop, I tell you what I’m going to do, how long it’ll take, and what it’ll cost. If anything changes — say it needs a part that we didn’t realize in advance — I call you first. Nothing happens without your okay.
I also tell people what I don’t do. No screens, no water damage, no power supplies. I’d rather be honest up front than pretend to be everything to everyone. Oh, I also don’t fix mobile phones, I usually refer people to MobileMend in Simcoe for that.

Interviewer: Now let us move on to pricing and what’s happening with ‘BIG TECH REPAIR’ — people complain about hidden fees all the time. What does “flat fee” actually mean in your case?

Dan: It’s simple. One hundred twenty dollars covers the service. That’s the full repair — whether I’m cleaning up a slow system, fixing a boot loop, or reinstalling the operating system. If parts are needed, like a new hard drive or extra RAM, I’ll tell you the cost before I install anything. That’s it. No “diagnostic charges,” no random shipping fees. This makes it predictable EVERY time. In fact, I’ve had the same pricing ever since I started doing computer repair over 15 years ago. Somehow I am inflation-proof, haha.

Interviewer: So if I bring my computer in and you can’t fix it, what happens then?

Dan: Then I tell you. Some problems — like bad motherboards or power supplies — are better handled by another shop in town. I’ll point you in the right direction. If I can’t help, I won’t charge you for a full repair. I might take a small assessment fee if I’ve spent significant time diagnosing it, but that’s always discussed first. Sometimes I will know right away if a computer is just dead. In such cases there is no service fee, no charge.

Interviewer: It sounds almost too simple compared to how messy some repair experiences can be. Why do you think others overcomplicate it?

Dan: Because they scale too big. They try to be everything to everyone. I’m just one guy in Simcoe doing the kind of computer work people actually need — speeding things up, fixing crashes, recovering photos, or setting up a clean system for resale. You can’t ‘fake’ care in the computer repair business. When you hand me your laptop, you’re trusting me with your personal world — your photos, your passwords, your stories. That deserves real respect, not a barcode.

Interviewer: Last question. What’s the one thing you wish every frustrated customer knew before choosing where to take their computer for repairs?

Dan: That the difference isn’t in the tech skills — most of us can replace a drive or reinstall Windows, that’s the commodity aspect of the business. The difference is in how I treat people, in my fast turnaround times, in my stable pricing… Basically everything that surrounds the job itself is made to reflect the reality of what makes sense, and what is good for regular folks like you and me!

When you walk into Simcoe Computer Repair, I know your name. You know mine. You’re not a number on a ticket; you’re someone whose computer stopped working or is causing you grief in one way or another, and I’m here to make that stress go away… Quickly and inexpensively.

Interviewer: That’s awesome, I really appreciate the insight, and it is always good to see that it all boils down to real human-to-human service. When big companies get too big – That’s the one thing they always leave behind. Thanks Dan, have a great time fixing those computers in Simcoe, Port Dover, and all around Norfolk County.
